How the shipping fees are calculated?

Shipping fees depend on different standards, which leads to different fees between goods despite the same weights.

The shipping fees are calculated based on both, Actual Weight, and the Dimensional Weight, international shipping companies takes in consideration both of them when making any calculations.

Actual Weight :

It is the weight of the shipment when placed on the scale. That is, it is
the actual weight of any product in kilograms.

Dimensional Weight:

The mass of the mail is calculated as Formula: {Width (cm) x Length
(cm) x Height (cm) divided By 5000} and the result is taken in KG.

Length x Width x Height

5000
=

What is the benefit of using Actual Weight or
Dimensional Weight?

Shipping charges are determined according to the extent of the space and weight that the shipment would occupy. Means of transport of different sizes have a maximum permissible weight, and their area is known.

If the weight of the shipment is light compared to its size, then the fees are calculated according to its size (dimensional weight) because, despite its weight, it has actually been reduced from the pre-determined space for shipment on the means of transport such as aircraft or others.

If the weight of the shipment is heavy and its area is small, the fees are calculated according to this actual weight, because despite its small area, the shipment has already taken part of the total weight allowed in the means of transport such as a plane or other.

Actual Weight = 5 kg
Dimensional Weight = 31 cm x 31 cm x 31 cm / 5000 = 5.9 kg

According to the rules in international shipping, after measuring the package’s dimensions and weight, the higher weight is used to determine the value of the fees, sometimes, having something lightweight such as a picture frame, for example, could cost more than shipping a jacket
